GE’s military engine business took another hit



Not that GE Aviation’s military engine business needed any more bad news, but India has decided to eliminate two U.S. contenders from a hotly contested $11 billion competition to supply 126 multipurpose fighter planes, according to this article in the Financial Times.

 

 

Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet and Lockheed Martin’s F-16 Super Viper – both of which are powered by GE (NYSE: GE) engines – lost out to two European planes that are still under consideration by the Indian military.

Indian, US defence militaries getting closer



New Delhi, April. 29 — Despite setbacks for US firms Lockheed-Martin and Boeing that were Wednesday eased out of India’s shortlist for a $10.4-billion deal for 126 fighter jets, the country’s ambassador here Timothy J. Roemer remains upbeat on defence ties.

 

 

“On defence, one simply has to look at the growth in defence sales to see how close our two armed forces are becoming,” Roemer told a meeting with AmCham here, a day after he said he was quitting as ambassador to India from June.

India rejects Russia’s fighter jet bid



MOSCOW — Russia confirmed on Friday that India had rejected its bid to supply its traditional ally with 126 multi-role combat aircraft in a deal worth about $12 billion.

 

 

A spokesman for the Rosoboronexport agency responsible for foreign military contracts said India had informed Russia of the decision earlier in the week.
