China will launch an unmanned spacecraft early next month that will attempt to dock with an experimental module, the latest step in what will be a decade-long effort to place a manned permanent space station in orbit. In space, the Shenzhou 8 will carry out maneuvers to couple with the Tiangong 1 module now in orbit.

GATR Technologies announced its win of a $7.3 million contract with D&S Consultants, Inc. (DSCI) to upgrade GATR’s 1.8m and 2.4m terminals to operate at X- and Ka-Bands to access government owned Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite constellations. The contract has a $7.3 million ceiling with an initial $1.4 million initial task order to fund terminal certification.

Northrop Grumman announced it demonstrated advanced technologies for ground vehicle protection and situational awareness at Camp Roberts in California. In one of the test scenarios, Northrop Grumman simulated a typical convoy mission leaving a forward operating base. By using the company’s Smart Integrated Vehicle Area Network and vehicle-mounted sensors, crews in multiple vehicles maintained situational awareness with each other and the Tactical Operations Center under all weather conditions.
