ATK gets $99M in military contracts



Alliant Techsystems Inc. said this week that it received $99 million worth of ammunition orders from the U.S. military.

 

 

ATK (NYSE: ATK) said in a news release that the Navy awarded it a $49 million contract to produce a new special operations ammunition that is more accurate.
Production of the new ammo will be at ATK’s Anoka plant, with deliveries expcted to be made in 2015, the company said.

Alliant gets $32.5 million federal contract modification



A division of Alliant Techsystems Inc. received a $32.5 million modification to a previously awarded military contract.

 

 

The modification for the company’s Integrated Systems Division in Clearwater is to exercise an option for up to 1,700 replaceable assemblies for certain missile warning systems weapons, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement.

Alliant Techsystems and its products that reach for the stars



Alliant Techsystems has made a name for itself with products that reach for the stars. The company’s rocket motors have powered astronauts aboard the space shuttle and helped guide the unmanned spacecraft that discovered ice on Mars.

 

 

But its view of where it should go to sell its rockets, high-tech weapons and ammunition has been far more confined. Only about 10 percent of Eden Prairie-based Alliant’s sales come from international markets, less than some major competitors such as Raytheon Co., where foreign customers account for about 20 percent of sales.
