Navy to induct 24 P-8I maritime reconnaissance aircraft



The Indian Navy will acquire 12 more Boeing P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance (LRMR) aircraft to boost its eye in the sky over India’s territorial waters and exclusive economic zone. This is in addition to the 12 already ordered. Indian Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma told India Strategic defence magazine (www.indiastrategic.in) in an interview that the force was satisfied with the progress of the first eight P-8Is being built by Boeing under a 2009 order and that the second order for four more aircraft was being processed. It would be placed within the current fiscal ending March 2012.

Faster, Meaner Apaches Allow Pilots to Control Drones in Battle



Crews piloting the latest version of the Army’s Apache attack helicopter will be able to fly faster and higher, all while controlling unmanned aircraft during battles, according to Army officials. The first of nearly 700 new or upgraded AH-64D Longbow Apache Block III helicopters that the Army is acquiring under a near $700 million deal with Boeing are set to roll off a production line on Wednesday, according to Sofia Bledsoe, a public affairs officer with Program Executive Office Aviation.

Boeing to Showcase Partnerships and Innovation Capabilities at Seoul Air Show



The Boeing Company  will highlight its leading-edge commercial and defense technologies and capabilities — including the Korea debut of the 787 Dreamliner, F-15 Silent Eagle and the AH-6i light attack reconnaissance helicopter — at the 2011 Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition. The super-efficient Dreamliner will take center stage at this year’s show for Korean 787 customers and suppliers, such as Korean Air and Korea Aerospace Industries. “Boeing’s presence at the Seoul Air Show underscores our longstanding support for the Republic of Korea’s armed forces and our strong relationship with the country’s airlines,” said Pat Gaines, president of Boeing Korea.
