Network Equipment Technologies’ NX1000 Added to DISA Approved Products List

NET Federal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (“NET”) (NASDAQ: NWK) announced that its NX1000 multiservice access platform has been tested and certified by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) for interoperability with Defense Department networks and has been added to the Unified Capabilities Approved Product List (UC APL). Unified Capabilities are the integration of voice, video, and/or data services delivered ubiquitously across a secure and highly available network infrastructure, independent of technology, to provide increased mission effectiveness to the warfighter and business communities.

This certification allows the NX1000 to be deployed by the various military services to carry converged mission critical, real-time services such as voice, video and data communications. The Unified Capabilities Approved Product List certification process ensures products are capable of meeting the demanding security requirements to connect to the Defense Information Systems Network and open standards-based interoperability with Defense Department Networks.

Concurrent with the certification of the NX1000, the Promina Series 400 and 800 platforms were updated with a new release of software, R4.5.3, as well as several newly introduced voice and data cards and approved for inclusion on the UC APL. A new NET voice module, the Network Voice Exchange (NVX) PrimeVoice Secure Enhanced (PVS-E), was included in these tests. The NVX/PVS-E is an “all-in-one” voice card, combining echo cancellation, compression and secure voice relay services on one card and replacing up to 13 legacy Promina voice cards. The High Density Data (HDD4) module combines serial data rates supported by three legacy data cards into one data module with four ports; the High Density T1/E1 (HD-T1E1) provides four configurable T1 or E1 ports that are used as clear-channel transport. The new modules are compatible with both the NX1000 and the Promina Series platforms.

The NX1000 interoperates with Promina nodes in a network to provide a bridge across an IP backbone for data, voice and video services using Structure Agnostic TDM over Packet (SAToP) protocol. This certification provides assurance to NET’s government customers that the product has the interoperability and the security to support their legacy circuit-based network applications while also delivering the capability to transport these services over an IPv4 or IPv6/MPLS core.

“We are very pleased to have received APL certification,” remarked John Winters, VP of NET Federal Sales. “Completion of these certifications and being listed on DISA’s Approved Products List assures our Government customers that our communication equipment will meet the strenuous requirements of their mission critical applications. Obtaining the JITC certification is not only essential for deployments requiring connectivity to the Defense Switched Network, but also demonstrates our commitment to the comprehensive information assurance requirements of DoD which is critical in today’s cyber environments. The NX1000 offers advanced circuit networking in a space saving package. The space, weight and power savings (SWAP) over legacy equipment along with its ability to bridge TDM and IP networks make it a natural step forward for our customers.”

In recognition of our APL Certification, NET Federal has announced that it will provide an extended warranty program with every new NX1000 purchased between now and September 30, 2012. Instead of the standard 90 day TAC, 1 year Parts warranty, NET Federal is offering 2 years of TAC, Software Updates and Parts Repair for each NX1000 purchased. “This extended warranty program will make the purchase of an NX1000 to replace or supplement existing Promina Nodes a very cost effective decision for our customers,” said Winters.

AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, and ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq:VSAT) announced  that the organizations have entered into a strategic alliance to align AAI’s advanced unmanned aircraft and command and control technologies with ViaSat integrated airborne and terrestrial satellite communications, as well as its Internet Protocol-based networking and security technology. Under the agreement, the organizations intend to develop and mature beyond-line-of-sight satellite communications capabilities for current and next-generation AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems aircraft.

Through this strategic alliance, the two companies can build on the FASTCOM system’s maturity with additional third- and fourth-generation, or 3G and 4G, capability to further enhance battlefield communications.

“The performance and affordability of tactical UAS like our Shadow® system make them an invaluable battlefield asset with a growing mission spectrum,” says Senior Vice President and General Manager Steven Reid of AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems. “Our customers’ unmanned assets need to be as flexible and capable as the troops who utilize them, and this new strategic alliance with ViaSat is one way that we’re staying on the leading edge of system development and integration.”

“This new phase of the AAI Unmanned Aircraft Systems relationship is completely in-sync with our intent to continue delivering industry-leading broadband performance over ultra-small-aperture airborne satellite communication systems,” said Vice President and General Manager for ViaSat Global Mobile Broadband Paul Baca. “And our private satellite network services can deliver the dedicated bandwidth needed to distribute tactical UAS video throughout the battlespace.”
