Rocket lifts off with 3G military communications



An unmanned Atlas 5 rocket blasted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Friday carrying the first satellite in a new military network designed to give cellphone-like 3G communications to troops on the move. The 191-foot- (58-metre-) tall Atlas 5 rocket, the most powerful launcher in the U.S. inventory, lifted off at 5:15 p.m. EST (2215 GMT), darting through sunny skies as it soared over the Atlantic Ocean to deliver the Navy’s first Mobile User Objective System satellite into orbit.

New Research in Explosives Detectors Includes Printable Sensor



Improving and re-engineering explosives detectors have been constant themes for researchers. Recently two new detectors have been announced: a portable device that identifies inorganic explosives in less than 60 seconds, and a prototype for a wireless sensor that can detect trace amounts of ammonia, a key chemical found in improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

Russia and Peru: A Partnership Based on Advanced Defence Technologies and Confidence



16:22 GMT, May 10, 2011 Moscow | A delegation of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE) Rosoboronexport will attend the 3rd SITDEF PERU 2011 (Salon Internacional de Technologia para la Defensa) International Defence Technology Exhibition to be held in Lima, the capital of the Republic of Peru, in the period from 11th to 15th May 2011.

 

 

The SITDEF PERU event is supported by the President of Peru Alan Garcia. It is organised by the Peruvian Ministry of Defence. Exhibits in the pavilions of the exhibition will present armoured vehicles, artillery pieces, military and civil aircraft, communication facilities, air defence assets, naval systems, automobiles, civil engineer, medical, de-mining and civil defence equipment.
