Acting DHS Deputy Undersecretary Greg Schaffer warns that U.S. utilities and industries face a rising number of cyber break-ins as industrial machinery is wired to the Net. According to the DHS, Control System Security Program cyber experts based at the Idaho National Laboratory responded to 116 requests for assistance in 2010, and 342 this year.

President Dwight Eisenhower warned the country during his farewell address in 1961 that the military-industrial complex was an encroaching problem within the halls of government.

By the end of the decade, defense contractors had made hundreds of billions of dollars off of government contracts supplying and developing weapons for the U.S. military in its war efforts in Vietnam. As the years went by, it would be learned that not only were they making massive profits, they were also being allowed to egregiously overcharge for everything from bolts to coffee pots.
